The IAdea PIO-101 general purpose input/output (GPIO) module enables the professional integrator to orchestrate digital signage content with sensors and attenuators including buttons, motion sensors, optical detectors, relays, lighting, etc. Using the GPIO module, you can create an immersive multimedia experience that truly impresses the audience.
The GPIO module can be used for building interactive kiosks with buttons. When a visitor presses a button, a specific media file that responds to the need of the customer is triggered to play. Alternatively, the module can be connected to a motion sensor or proximity sensor to trigger video playback when people comes close to the screen. Another application would integrate the module with a gas pump hook, so that when the patron lifts the gas nozzle and starts to fill his gas tank, a video can be triggered to start playing.
PIO-101 requires the minimal amount of external circuitry by using simple open-close circuits on the input and output ports. To drive an input signal, simply short the input pin to ground. To drive a device with an output signal, simply use the output pin as a path to ground which opens and closes depending on output state (open-drain).
The GPIO module works with multiple IAdea media appliances and integrated displays. External events are sent via the USB port into the player and integrated into the SMIL script to trigger playlists. The module also works with a great number of third-party software that supports SMIL scripts with interactivity capability.
